I buy mostly 1 oz coins. I also have a stash of so called "junk silver," which are a mixture of circulated silver dimes and quarters, for spending if times are tough. Some folks prefer bars or certain other denominations. Some people prefer antique coins. I'll bet if you called a vendor they could answer a few questions for you. Good luck! Stacking is quite addicting!
Thank you! I’ve been looking into it for awhile but haven’t pulled the trigger on anything bc I haven’t been settled. 1 oz is what I’ve been looking at. I read a series and they bartered in circulated silver. The thing that made the struck me in the series was that people didn’t have a way of exchanging larger “denominations”. I just have no clue why one 1 oz silver coin is better than another other than obvious type reasons like less available.
A great place to start is with pre 1964 dimes and quarters. Anything after 1964 is not worth the effort. Great for barter. Currently expect to pay about 20 x face value. So If you are buying a roll of old quarters in $10 wrapper , it will likely cost about $200. Give or take a bit depending on the price of silver.
Ok! Thank you! I’m not really stacking , just trying to have a cushion if SHTF!
One thing to look at is that some coins are privately minted, and are collectible; and some are minted by the US Mint and are there for spendable. So that can make a difference if your goal is to have something to spend or collect.
Ok. That helps, thank you!
