Here's a crazy what if theory for you...

Obama was always a white hat, possibly a company man like his gramps (furniture salesman? Ha!). Manchurian candidate. Consider his mostly absent or at best confusing history, compared to the well documented histories of the Bidens and Clintons, as well as political establishment elite families in both parties...
