I’m from India, originally. Until I came to the US, I had no idea there was such a thing as being allergic to peanuts, gluten, lactose, etc.
I’m thinking you didn’t see it in India is because people ate real food and not processed. I don’t have the numbers but I believe the majority of the rest of the world eats real food. Even the restaurants probably serve good food. Even the sit down restaurants in America serve processed food. Niave me thought Panera Bread was different than other fast foods. I really thought they were making the soups in house. I saw them pour a single serving bag of their tomato soup in to the bowl. I used to work for a food distribution company. I didn’t know restaurants like Out Back, Olive Garden, Red Lobster etc were getting the food from the same vendors. Our food system has been screwed up since the 80s. Probably before then.
You are right about everything you wrote. It was definitely a surprise when I started living here.
