HS class of 100, graduated in early 90s, midwest farming community.
1 real fat male, 1 or 2 other fairly fat. a few heavy gals. no gays but there were some who were suspect but you'd NEVER admit to that in that day and community.
Of course you'd call each other fags when picking on people but hey, that's what you did.
No weird allergies that I knew of, hayfever and other seasonal allergies, but some were allergic to milk. You would tell because at lunch they would get water and not milk.
when I was in grade school there was 1 "retarded" kid but he disappeared somewhere, maybe went to a special school or something. He wasn't autistic it was more like he was dropped on his head or something.
No autistic kids, period.
The first autistic person I ever met was in college which was in the mid 90s and he was just super smart and extremely geeky and zero social skills, and was super easily upset.
Think sheldon cooper only weirder.
He was not CALLED autistic, because that wasn't a thing then. He had no "special care" instructions, no handler, nothing.
But looking back he may have been aspbergers or on the spectrum in some way.
For me, Autism was not really a thing until the 2000s, period.
mine seemed fixated on me, and would chase me as the class was marching in line coming in from recess to steal my sock hat. This is like 1st or 2nd grade.
It was just ALL THE TIME that winter. He would just not leave me alone.
One time we ended up running all over the place and were super late getting back to class, a few minutes after everyone else.
So, we both got in trouble, and my mom was PISSED and called the school basically saying to keep that kid away from my kid.
