Absolutely agree about info addiction. I am 94 days SOBER right now and in the first month I couldn't put my phones down. Also there is BIG HABBENINGS all the time and I cover stories /do news music podcast so I substituted news info for my drug/alcohol habits and now make myself take a break - no screen time for a few days - every once in a while
It's good to unplug, but it's ffffucking hard. You end up trying to fill the gap with something else, only most things you can fill that gap with can be "enhanced" via multitasking with information.
For me, as an example, building models often leads me to listening or watching podcasts, shows, or frequent distractions by feeling compelled to see what I've missed. If I can't do that, I really feel it in my mood.
I think it's spurred on by the stress right now, and the unending hope that a positive development happens.
I also take my information dissemination role seriously so I want to ensure I am well informed to bring that information to friends and family ASAP to try and counter narrative formation by the powers that be.
