Not a good solution. Russia needs a neutral borderland as a buffer against invasion and the emplacement of strategic weapons. The U.S. wanted Ukraine to be an active antagonist. Poland would merely replace one antagonist with another. The Ukraine coming out of this war is likely to be an amputee.
