I drive in the north east sometimes, the amount of dead trees I see is staggering. The trees just fall over with no roots or snap halfway up the trunk, in some places it seems to go on forever.
The purpose seems obvious to me. They want to kill off the plant life and its pollinators. Whether it's to engineer a famine, engineer an actual greenhouse effect, or both, I do not know.
I'm of the opinion that "acid rain" of the 70s and 80s were some of the first high-level tests to see what chemicals would do what when dispersed. The effects of acid rain are exactly what you describe.
You are correct. Back then, [they] were spraying a sulphur compound that created dilute sulphuric acid.
