So many comments here on how people can't survive on their SS money alone.
It was never supposed to support a person on it alone. It is, and always has been, a supplement to retirement savings.
Why is it that the concept of personal responsibility so many times gets thrown out the window when it comes to retirees and their retirement money and SS?
If you comment on it, then people start in on their sad stories of why they(or their parents) weren't able to save any money after a lifetime of (supposedly) working. This is the same generation who could typically pay for college by flipping burgers during the summer and weren't starting out in life with hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt.
These are usually the same ones they tell to younger generations to pull themselves up by their bootstraps and work three jobs in order to pay rent (not much home ownership for the younger generations, you know).
But now we're supposed to feel sorry for the old folks because they didn't save enough (or any, in many cases) money for retirement.🤷♀️
I say this as someone who fully expects to not see a single penny of the money I've spent decades paying into the SS ponzi scheme (supporting the people drawing SS now), because the system will be completely broken by the time my retirement age (haha, like we'll be able to retire) comes around. So I've done that whole "personal responsibility" thing and saved like a dog and invested in things that won't be wiped out in stock market crashes to pay for my retirement (or more accurately, my inability to work full time when I get old).
Ohhh, but people are going to get mad at me for daring to say anything negative about the old people that can talk a big game about personal responsibility but can't seem to live it themselves. They all seem to have some sad sack story about how it was just impossible for them to save money. 😒
It's impossible for plenty of people to save money, look around. The point of the post wasn't that the granny needs more, anyway.
That's very true, but the Democrats/Rinos started pushing it as the SOLE source/or PRIMARY source of retirement income. I never saw it that way and I saved a lot and did with out to get to the point where I could survive even if I lost SS altogether.
They did? When? And how? And why would anyone, especially anyone here, believe them?
