right there with ya. And unlike most fans, I found there POP album to be the best (my favorite anyway). Always loved their music. Wish they woulda just stuck with music (like all performers do) and stay the hell out of politics and telling people how to live. Can't understand why these "celebrities" dont just STFU, perform, and let ppl do their own thinking.

I feel like they were “got to” in the interim between Joshua Tree/Rattle & Hum and Achtung Baby and their subsequent reinvention of themselves. Maybe I’m naive and they sold out long before then but “the change” is very obvious to see in hindsight.
