While I agree, I suspect this is to impede the global supply chain of oil. Then Iran’s allies would have to buy from our suppliers which would drive up our oil prices.
No, they are going after the suppliers of Lancet drones and other Iranian assistance to the war in Ukraine
Sadr City 2007 - Special Forces and Clandestine Services are the only ones allowed into the city. A treaty was made locally with Sadr for a ceasefire. Under the cover of this ceasefire, Sadr asks for assistance from other countries (namely Iran). Iranian Special Forces infiltrate the groups and city, and supply knowledge to build Explosively Formed Penetrators, which threatens to turn the tide in Iraq. These EFPs devastate all armor, leaving it to an infantry battle with aerial/artillery support. No tanks, no wheeled vehicles, nothing was safe. It was really hurting coalition forces. Enter a special mission that eliminated the EFP threat by 80% around this time. Sadr had also alleged a loss of control of his city during that ceasefire after an arms buildup (and dealing with Iran). US is field testing Boomerang, FBCB2, Raven, RWS, BAT/HIIDE, Palantir, and are tapped into every phone/camera in Iraq.
