You’re exactly right. I can see the other side. From my perspective, if something happened to my kid, I’d call the people that matter and wouldn’t worry about the rest of the world. I’d be so devastated that I wouldn’t care who knew aside from my family. To me when someone posts something on the internet, it never comes across as serious whether they put 5 exclamation points or how they write it. The last thing I’d be worried about would be making a Facebook post in that situation.
Facebook should be the last thing any parent is concerned with, in that situation. I have never had any use for it, myself, anyway.
OTOH, I can see how this is a quick way to communicate. Similar to the Caring Bridge that will be set up when someone is in the hospital for surgery.
