Amazon are so big they can just buy so many retail outlets that the options to go elsewhere is reduced so much and there'll eventually only be these stores; or other big stores will copy their model to compete for "convenience" and we'll only have these shops to choose from regardless!
There's an easy way to defeat this -- don't shop there and take your business elsewhere. Now's the time to nip this in the bud.

This is going to require anti-trust lawsuits, and ultimately the breakup of Amazon into many smaller pieces. Same for Google, Microsoft, etc.
