Wagner claims they are taking one million of them seriously (10%), so presumably they are filtering the 'joke' applications, mentioned by @Retaining_H2O.

Even if only 10% of these 'more serious' applications are viable, then you have 100,000 people signed up. That is still a significant army, sourced from US citizens.

Wagner is a group that is very careful when stating facts on the ground: when they say they have taken a town, then you can bet your boots that they have. But they are also a mercenary group, similar to the French Foreign legion, which uses media to project themselves, unlike the Russian army, from whom we hardly get any information when it comes to war-front news.

My point is that the 10 Million may be an exaggeration. However, the one million may be more accurate, and likely TBH, given Wagner's media reach. Furthermore, the fact that they ARE recruiting Americans can be seen as completely true, otherwise they would not even be talking about it.
