Doves appear frequently in the Bible in a favorable context, e.g. they were a Temple sacrifice if you couldn't afford a bigger animal. But that would mean they were clean animals. Also the Holy Spirit appeared as a dove, Noah sent out doves and ravens to look for land, and Elijah was fed by a raven when he was hiding. I know that both gulls and ravens would cheerfully eat a plump dove, but it is spooky that this gull in the city would attack.
The birds which symbolize evil are the blackbird, owl, and woodpecker. Ravens and partridge are sometimes good, sometimes bad. Ravens are unclean because they eat dead animals, but on the other hand, that seems to be part of the natural plan.
That's what it said in one source--I had the same reaction.🤔 Maybe the noise? Maybe because the trees they hunt bugs in tend to be diseased and people thought the woodpecker caused it? Ibis are common birds. They were honored in Egypt which could have been distasteful to the Hebrews. There was an old myth that they give themselves enemas with their long beaks, that's what your source means by "purges itself." Ibis actually are probing the mud for snails and such, not carrion. The manuscript is using ibis as a metaphor, and not a very accurate one. They are mentioned in the Bible in connection with wastelands, along with owls and ravens, all unclean because of eating meat or carrion. So if not actually evil, they all have unclean associations and could cause rital defilement.
Maybe im recalling a preacher mentioning that for that particular reference. Cause now that you say ravens, kjv says ravens brought Elijah food in book of kings.

Here's the biggest compilation I've found so far on birds in the Bible.

If any bird is to be considered chaotic evil, it's the Australian Cassowary
That thing is a living dinosaur.
Servants of satan, iirc. Book Of Daniel; Nebuchadnezzar's first dream.

Wait, why the woodpecker?
Were they THAT annoyed by the sound they thought is was evil on Day One?
I think you meant the ibis bird, as the medieval manuscripts depict is as evil

Anywho.
