You’d think they’d just put DDT in the chicken feed and get it over with. I say jokingly but it’s actually much much simpler than that. Reduce the calcium in the standard alfalfa pellet feed and eggs are too weak and hens die while eggs break inside them before laying. We have unfortunately learned this while supplementing feed with day old bakery breads, rolls, and buns. If given too much the birds selectively use the bread first and don’t eat enough pellets with the calcium. You start to notice more eggs broken in nests and in your hands while picking them up.
