I wasn't sure what to make of it besides it being a mask one of them had been wearing initially. The strings are very long on the mask which makes me think an adult was wearing it, not the "child," represented by the rabbit. I thought of it more as another layer of the men in rabbit costume, an ability to pretend to have innocence when none is present.
