Look up the film "White Noise", it's about a train derailment in ohio that creates an "airborne toxic event", on netflix (2022). It's even in the same town I think...
So the question going back and forth here is if the DS is getting their ideas from movies or are they using movies to give us a preview of what they have in store?
I’m 500+ miles away in SE PA but not sitting comfortable at all…
its called 'predictive programming' and it is used to pre-emptively psychologically prime a population to accept an explanation for an event when it occurs.
I know it was filmed in Ohio. But I haven't watched it to see if it's officially set in Ohio.
The book that the movie is based on:. The exact geographical setting of White Noise is unidentified, but elements of the novel evoke the Midwestern United States, especially the Rust Belt and Upper Midwest.

I think it’s to give us preview of what’s to come. Think about how many movies have predicted future events…
I think the (D) evil has no imagination so it relies on men to come up with bad ideas and then encourages other men to make those bad ideas a reality.
I personally think it's more of the second: Them using movies to give us a preview of what they have in store.
Do I have any evidence for that? Nah. It just "feels" more like it, to me.
