We can make gasoline from coal, or from natural gas, or from water and any carbonaceous material. The estimated reserves depend on exploration and the improvement of methods of extraction (e.g., fracking). The end point is far out, and some claim that it is a naturally replenishing substance, not "fossil" at all. It may "run out" but not soon, and not without alternatives.
Batteries will never improve but we can just make gas out of water.
Seems like a solid plan ya got. Hope it works out for ya.
It worked for the Germans in World Wars I and II. It worked for the South Africans in the midst of sanctions (Sasol). You know, when you decide to use Snide for an argument, it would help if you knew what you were talking about.
Water gas to the rescue!!! Forget battery and electricity progress, we'll just simply revert back to WW1 technology to keep our smoggy inefficient engines going forever.
South Africa can't keep the lights on bro... Maybe not the best example of energy independence to bring up.
Don't need to solve a non-problem. As for South Africa, the problems are political, not technical.
You are a bit of a hypocrite to drum on energy independence, and then promote a technology that must largely be bought from China and overseas, and use carbon-based fuels as its ultimate energy source.
