Nitrous oxide NOx is orange like that. Not sure of the chemistry of nitric acid reaction in air and forms NOx, but have seen trace orange vapors at nitric acid production.
Nitrous oxide (N2O) is colorless and relatively harmless. We breathe it when we need to in dentist's offices.
These are the fumes in "Red Fuming Nitric Acid" and they are nitrogen dioxide (NO2). They will likely react with water vapor to form nitric acid. They are also a strong oxidizer and may incite fires.
