Yeh, it's part of the color revolution: Up-end every normalcy, tradition, grammar, and meaning until it no longer means what used to mean.

This is all part of the plan of Communist take-overs since 1917. There's not a single one that took place that didn't adhere to this phase.

I see four possibilities:

They're miseducated (indoctrinated)
They're actually illiterate, as in they haven't read the right books, due to either willful or naïve ignorance
They're going with their peers to fit in, against their better judgment
They're willfully ignorant to fulfill an agenda
