Thanks
I have had my ear to the ground during this Ukraine conflict.
Bakhmut and Soledar, as well as Paraskovievka have a vast network of salt mines beneath them. the networks are so extensive, that they were tourist attractions in Victorian (Tsarist) times. Occasionally one hears that certain groups had hidden military hardware and weapons in the tunnels, and then radio-silence. Sometimes there is a news item of Wagners going in and 'clearing the tunnels' but it comes in tiny mentions.
Ugledar, or Vugledar, depending on which language one speaks, is sitting on a coal mine, bordering onto a saltmine further North.
Previously there were similar stories about the Azovstal factory in Mariupol.
One does wonder why all the major battles are fought over tunneled places.
Hmm, I speak English, German, French, Greek and a few words of Spanish. So which is it?
Noice username then
The languages are Russian or Ukrainian. (Anglicized, for easy reading.)
Vugledar is Ukrainian (Вугледа́р)
and Ugledar is Russian (Угледа́р)
BTW: it means Gift of coal.
I also speak a bunch of languages: Dutch, English, German and French and some Spanish. And can be polite in Arabic and Malay. So whatever. At the moment I am endeavoring to read Cyrillic, and watching as much Russian stuff as I can, So I guess, here we go again - Russian is more complicated than German. Still haven't reached the standard my dad set, at ten languages.
The point was that Ugledar has undergorund tunnels.
