This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an intergral part of the GAW experience for many of us.

In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Do they own their home? Is this home fully paid off? What is the current value of this home? Is the debt mentioned their only debt?
As you mentioned,you can inherent debt, but you need to be certain of this.
$50,000.00 isn't a huge debt, but in your position if would appear to be quite large and potentially very damaging.
One obvious option would be for your parents to take out a reverse mortgage on the property if they can.
Try to keep calm and explore options to resolve the situation.
