Republican South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem’s efforts to block China from buying up farmland in her state were thwarted this week when a supermajority of state Senators rejected her proposal.
As Breitbart News previously reported, Noem had proposed a bill that would “create a state-level version of the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS)” in order to curtail foreign Chinese entities from buying agricultural land in her state:
Currently, CFIUS is a federal board that approves or disapproves of foreign entities engaging in major U.S. transactions. Noem’s proposal would establish a CFIUS-South Dakota, or CFIUS-SD, which would review proposed transactions in the state where foreign entities including but not limited to Chinese entities seek to purchase land. The board, if established — which would require the legislature to pass Noem’s proposal — could block such land sales as it sees fit.
Essentially, Senate Bill 185 would have granted the South Dakota governor the power to unilaterally veto any purchase reviewed by the panel. The state senate rejected the bill on Tuesday with an 11-23 vote.
THIS is why no state is safe. The people are asleep there as well....no idea what their real responsibilities are. She cannot do things by herself.
Yeah, reading stuff like this - and I've just read all the comments - pretty much equally convincing each way (Noem bad, state senate bad) - really makes me question if it's worth it trying to get out of CO and head to a "friendlier" state. Will it just be a few years' reprieve?
Example. TN is near top of list. Um, TN looks to be on the verge of MJ legalization. Um, what happens to states when THAT happens, so far? (Even AZ though we know that's fake.) Blargh.
The people are ignorant everywhere. Until this changes, we could be handed a pristine Constitutional Republic tomorrow and we would lose it almost immediately. We, as a people, have absolutely NO idea what the founders set up and HOW TO KEEP IT THAT WAY.
Yes. Everyone needs to understand the critical importance of WHY this setup is critical, just, and moral. They have to adopt as their mindset the importance of this rather than just getting ahead, or worse, controlling others. (This applies to all kinds of things - e.g. corporations only concerned with maximum profit, rather than enough profit but good product, happy - hence more productive - employees, better safety etc.)
Or the short version: "I swear by my life and my love of it that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine."
