That is a good point, but the difference is it is doing good for ALL instead of individuals. If everyone just got X dollars to do with what they please the prices of everything would go up. If instead the conditions in which everyone lives and works are fixed/improved everyone benefits without screwing up the economy further.
Watch what happens when/if San Francisco actually pays out those reparations to blacks that say they are descendants of slaves. Suddenly a lot of people that maybe didn't have a bunch of money will have a ton for free and will go buy all the stuff they have wanted for years. Things like the $300 sneakers will end up going for $1k or more. Simple supply and demand. Now extrapolate that out to everyone. Think $100k cars, $10M houses, etc. None of this is even taking into account the vast amounts of drugs/alcohol that will also likely be consumed, or the theft/robberies that will surely follow.
