Were acts of sabotage by someone on the inside of each of these operations. That post above got me thinking- could the balloons have been running radio transmitters to signal to the saboteurs that it is time to act? Writing it out it sounds silly now, considering how high profile it was. But if you look into Cold War numbers stations, they aren’t really secret or subtle, and some are still in use today. But then, if that’s what the balloon was for, why not then just use a ground based transmission. Im just not buying the “spying” excuse, I feel like these days you don’t need to be that close for another country to see our land.
What do you guys think? I think numbers stations and other mysterious broadcasts are very interesting and wonder if the spy balloon was one.
You equate spying with visual gathering of land though.
The thing could not have a camera and still be spying.
Think about what other spy tech could be used that can’t operate from space?
Stingray data collection type devices, I’d imagine those balloons were sweeping every bit of information they could come across. And probably had the means to crack secured things with advanced military spy gear similar to how the police sweep cellphones w stingrays.
The truth is whatever they were doing was probably more advanced and nefarious than simply taking close up photos.
Heck this thing could be far more nefarious than a spy tool, how do we know it wasn’t spraying substances? Infecting computers w spyware or viruses?
A numbers station is a very interesting notion. Directional RF could hinder NSA HF interception. Could be the go signal with 2-way authentication for sleeper cells to commit industrial sabotage.
