1 Corinthians 3:12-13
King James Version
12 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;
13 Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is.
What does this mean?
The main point of this passage is in 3:10 “each one should take care how he builds upon it.”
Many commentators note how the beginning of 1 Corinthians compares worldly wisdom and Godly wisdom. Whether we are building up the Christian life of ourselves or of someone else, we should heed the warning to take care how we build. The foundation is Christ and the subsequent work of building should be done with Christ and with things of permanence—Godly wisdom and instruction. Someone having a foundation of Christ then building on it with worldly wisdom is adding things that won’t last.

And what is the building that is being built? It's in Eph. 2:19-22. This is corporate, many members but one Body are being built into the dwelling place of God in spirit. How is this possible with the household of God cut into thousands of pieces. Doesn't division destroy this building?
...there will always be the remnant....
Here's a question that believers should be asking, What is God's "eternal purpose?" After all, all things came were created for this (Rev. 4:11).
Ephesians 3:9-13
KJV
and to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ: to the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God, according to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord: in whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him. Wherefore I desire that ye faint not at my tribulations for you, which is your glory.
