It looks like there is a concerted effort underway to prepare the public for a “new pandemic”, and here are some of the mainstream media headlines making the rounds this past week:

USA: “CDC says it’s in a posture of readiness amid fears H5N1 bird flu is poised to jump to humans - there are several vaccines and drugs in the works” (click here)

I've been game shooting for plenty of years, multiple shoots each year. This year just before the season started bird flu was in the area. A friend who owned a wild fowl business selling all sorts of birds and fowl, rare breeds and common ones, definitely had something has each day he would come out and find some dead in the ponds and pens.
The Gov came out and tested, said yes it was bird flu, and despite many many of them getting over it (the rates for different birds varied) they made him cull the lot!
It was, according to other game keepers I spoke with on many of the shoots as well, mainly effecting the Pheasant stock but personally I never saw any.
There was a bit of chatter about it spreading to the working dogs, and even to humans, but nobody really took that seriously and we went on as usual with no problems at all with either the dogs or humans.
Now it's not even being talked about, they will have a hard task to whip up any sort of frenzy about it now as we know for certain it's not effecting anything in our area with many many birds in the wild.
