Right there! Around here asparagus grows by the road beds. Road salt fertilizes it. Most people don't bother picking it because they don't know what asparagus looks like or something. They don't have a clue! You have to walk the ditch to find it but Sooo worth it!
I live in Michigan and have lots of Amish around here. Blackberries too. I've been meaning to get a foraging book. We do quite a bit but there is always more to learn. We have lots of wildlife of course. Raised on it. Love May for the morels! And fall for the black walnuts. I have asparagus in my garden too. I remember when my grand parents built a small deck off their kitchen. It was on a hill and it's placement made it hard for my grandparents to get to. They would hand me gpas jack knife and I would crawl around under that deck cutting those delicious spears of green. Much better taste and much better experience than a grocery store!
And dandelion greens! So good!
