A Constitutional Dollar contains 371.25 grains of pure silver (24.06 grams). It predates the United States Constitution and is not backed by silver, but IS silver. It's a measurement of weight of metal.

Any "dollar" that is not redeemable for 371.25 grains of pure silver is not a dollar at all, but instead is comparable to the fake UK "pound" that's not actually a pound of silver anymore either.
