I work for a big L.A. law firm. We used to have hundreds of applicants for the smallest of jobs, just to get in the door. Good pay, good benefits, prestige, bonuses, etc. Now, we are having to use temp agencies, participate in job fairs, hire those we would not have considered before. It's crazy - second biggest labor market and so many no-shows for the first interview. I think a big part of it was the covid lockdowns had many young people returning to home to live with their families and they are just staying there. Rent is out of control, so it makes sense. But it is also scary.
