They're not kaput yet. Orban spilled the beans three weeks ago and said that NATO is about to go in with a so-called peacekeeping mission. (my post)

If I were the Russians, I would not be in a hurry to take all of Bakhmut. While it is contested the Ukrainians keep throwing men and weapons in and the casualty ratios are probably very good for the Russians in this setting.
