My favorite analogy is when a child tells his parents that he wants to be a pirate. The parents have two options, laugh it off and wait for the child to grow out of it, or have an eye taken out and remove a foot and a hand to replace them with a pegleg and a hook.
My kid wanted to be a dog. She was about 8. She would crawl around on the floor and act like a dog, pant and carry toys and lap up her food at the table. This went on for about a week, and then guess what. SHE STOPPED. This is what kids do, they are kids.
Yep, pretty much all of us had vivid imaginations and had various ideas of what we wanted to be growing up. Fortunately, it never got us pigeon holed into an irreversible path. The surgical alteration of a child, based on external influence and a passing fancy should be criminal and not allowed. If a child truly feels like they are the wrong gender and this lasts for multiple years, then by all means, they should be able to decide for themselves, when they turn 18. If their parents feel that strongly supportive, then they can pay for it. Taxpayer money should not be used for cosmetic and elective surgery.
