There's your standard genres like action, drama, comedy, mystery, fantasy, and horror;

Some of the more iconic sub-genres are Mecha, Magical Girls, Isekai(RPG-style fantasy), and the aforementioned gay stuff.

And then there's Hentai (x-rated anime)...I need not say more.
