Luke had an arc where he became less whiney with each movie. Whining isn’t necessarily pessimistic or cowardly. It isn’t too bad as long as he did his duty and he passed the tests of his courage. “I was going to Toshi station to pick up some power converters” at the beginning of the first movie is a pretty good example of whiney Luke. He still did what Uncle Owen told him and cleaned up the droids instead of going to Toshi station. Luke later whined to Owen about being stuck on the farm, but it was a legit concern for his own career to be held back from the military academy. Originally whining to Kenobi that Luke can’t go to Alderaan because he has to help on the farm was just the part of Campbell’s hero’s journey where the hero declines the quest the first time. After Owen and Beru are killed, though, Luke accepts the quest.
Sauce on Lucas? I’ve heard pedo rumors about Spielberg and seen the comms such as when a kid in ET is called “penis breath”. Haven’t really heard similar about Lucas.
