That's called demoralization. Late stage sovietism.

In fact it might actually be beyond that. People in the SU knew their news/info was total bullshit. They 'went along with it' as in went through the motions, but knew it was bullshit.

They were all living in a pretend world and knew it, but shrugged and went on with their business.

This is the stage we're in.
