OK, but we have all seen the statement that she never had a relationship with DJT.
First of all, it is not illegal to have sex. Even paid sex. So, the extortion is aimed at someone's political career, because it worked so well before. Think of Monica's Blue dress. In my opinion however, that is not what killed slick Willie's career. It was just the excuse given to the people.
Given that premise, the DS is putting the 'cart before the horse'. They are trying to fabricate an excuse to oust DJT, because wink wink nudge nudge dirty private life, but don't have any real reasons, such as bad foreign or domestic policies that are fundamentally unpopular.
But then again, there were the rumors of Marylin Monroe + JFK that totally didn't harm him - the DS had to murder him in the end. So, one wonders what these people are thinking, and the quality of their stupid think tanks. This makes me also think that W. Hats are in control, because it seems too ridiculous. It cannot be about sex. Even though this just adds salacious details - that was not illegal. The openly ridiculous part is to threaten to arrest someone for having been extorted, but then the payment was not even openly made, whether privately or from election funds.
So SD denied the sex part in the past, several times; DJT denies any relations, says she is not his type, even; and we see a super-corrupt lawyer-grifter secretly (even from his own wife) making a payment that was never re-imbursed - while he was (maybe) representing DJT - we need more info on that - had he already been fired as a lawyer? Did this lawyer pay the money to get the denial letter? Timing again. But then, the whole thing becomes an investigation of the obscure shenanigans operated by this lawyer, who may well have been in cahoots with herself for a quick buck.
So, she goes public saying she is getting death threats. Beware the emotional string-pulling that we are being now subjected to. Thanks Mediaite, CNN, oh and surprise surprise (not) Anderson Cooper, - so CIA.
So, methinks the regret for her, comes in at pursuing the extortion gig, but this entire story is spin and open struggling.

Perfect. I agree.
