I recall there being thunderstorms moving through the area which were visible on earlier screen shots for that short time lapse weather camera (lightning).
The rocket would not have been as loud or carried as far as what you see from Spacex or NASA. It was not meant to launch to LEO. Sub orbital launches require carrying less fuel, allows for smaller lighter launch vehicles, allows for smaller rocket engines, makes less sound which carries fewer miles, wouldn't in my opinion wake anybody up who was more than 10 miles away from launch site.
I guess I don't know how far the launch was from people. interesting about the thunderstorm tho.
I was looking at the map, it must have been in the big bay area for no one to hear it:

I was living on that island at the time, the military base is at the northwest part of the island, the military base did not react to "any possible missile launch", nothing (if it was not them, if it was unknown or even suspected to be you would think they would of went straight to red alert but, nope nothing.. The ATC on the base alert if even a small plane enters the airspace without making contact to the tower.. as it was all over the news there and called "it was a mystery light" not "a missile launch". Did it even happen? IDK.
