Federal agents closed in on McGrath, who was in a vehicle, in a commercial area near a highway in Farragut, Tennessee, an FBI spokesperson said. Gunfire erupted around 6:30 p.m.

The spokesperson said it was unclear whether McGrath shot himself or if an agent shot him, describing it only as an “agent-involved shooting.”

Could go either way. Judging on past events RE FBI. It's not out of context to assume they shot him
