It is my understanding that the agreements made in 2014 with Russia and Ukraine were to leave the eastern parts of Ukraine alone and let the residents pursue the way of life that they always have enjoyed I.e. Russian language etc. Also that the thought by Ukraine was that they would never let this happen and shelled that area ( if we can’t have it then neither can they). Also that this agreement was just a lie to Russia to allow Ukraine to ramp up their military. Sorry in advance if I’ve got this totally wrong but really need to understand in a simple way WTF is the cause.
