Banking options?
🧐 Help Wanted 🤔
Can someone weigh in on the best method for screening and choosing a bank / credit union? I need to leave the institution that I am currently using but don't want to choose wrong.
Things are in such turmoil, I don’t know for sure, but I would start with banks that have low derivative exposure. https://www.usbanklocations.com/bank-rank/derivatives.html
That being said, the Fed has signaled they are willing to bail out big banks and let smaller ones fail, and the Fed itself is in the process of failing… so…
Who knows.
There are no good options. It all feeds into the same dirty system. No need to overthink your choice here.
Look for credit unions. They tend to be more conservative in their investment and not for profits. They’re more incentivized to be responsible
Diversity. Invest in precious metals a little at a time. Keep cash on hand to cover your bills for at least 3 months. I use 3 banks - 1 big bank, 1 small community bank, 1 credit union. So if something happens to one I dont lose everything.
...small locally owned....
Along the same topic of OP, Is return rate on CDs at a credit union any way of evaluating if their at risk of failure? I'm familiar with a few Credit Unions and theres one that's more than 1.5% lower on their 12 month CDs and they do not seem to want to raise it (2.8% vs 4.5%). Same thing with their rates on Savings accounts etc. Wouldn't they be at risk of people pulling their deposits to get higher rates?
Be your own bank, with silver and gold. Keep enough in your credit union acc. To pay bills.
