As a bodyguard, you may overhear intimate details of the First Lady and President's life. You may hear private family discussions about their children, relatives, etc.

Just as you wouldn't want people talking in public, or to the papers about intimate details you share with your spouse; the INTENT was to provide protection, while allowing privacy.

And it's not a big secret that this privilege has been grossly abused.
