Also, I never buy steaks or other expensive cuts of beef, unless they are on "manager special" for half price or better. A large number of the items I buy have to be on sale for me to buy them. Then I buy enough to last until the next sale. You can save a ton that way.

80% ground beef is under $5. Six-packs of Mountain Dew 16 oz are usually on sale for $3 to $4. Some soft drinks are on sale every single week.
