Well...... in the military you get access pretty quick. I had access up to SECRET when I was 19...... and TOP SECRET when I was probably 20. It's actually pretty standard.
Isn't the classified stuff a little more tightly controlled than this story would indicate?
Seems, from what I read, this guy was able to just sit in a secured room and access whatever he felt like, and then somehow was able to take images even though cell phones were supposedly prohibited.
Shouldn't someone be monitoring what he was accessing even if he did have sufficient clearance?
I'm asking because I really don't know. Maybe this is another example of us collectively thinking those in charge know what they're doing, but in actuality "these people are stupid".
Came to edit my comment but you just said it. Even if he did have clearance, isn't the info regulated and accessible by only those who need access for a specific job duty being carried out?
TS/SCI= top secret/sensitive compartmented information. Even with a TS clearance he would NEVER have access to this data as it did not apply to anything he would be involved in. If he did get access its because the system has broken down due to military incompetence. The fedgov is desperate to find a scapegoat.
Well.... not necessarily... to be honest I don’t know many of the details here, but depending on his job, he may very well have had access and capability. For example, if he was in the intel field, he could have been sitting a lot of time in the vault by himself. But I really don’t know exactly what was leaked. It might be completely false. I was just reacting to the statement that someone so young would never have access to classified information.

I did not know that. I really thought it took time to reach upper levels of classified.
