A1C is E3 in USAF. Airman Basic (E1), Airman (E2), Airman 1st Class (E3), Sr Airman (E4), Then Staff Sergeant (in USAF SSgt is E-5, in Army it is E-6). There used to be a Sergeant or Buck Sergeant E4 but they did away with that a while back.
