I wouldn't completely rule this out, although I would speculate that it is not so much "infected", but instead tearing down the highly centralized infrastructure that can easily serve as a vector for control of the population.
The important thing to remember is that we need to completely reimagine all of our critical infrastructure. Food is probably the most important of these. This can't really be done while these dominant, centralized sources remain. Centralization always leads to control. We need to get back to a decentralized, mesh style production and distribution arrangement, made up of thousands of smaller operators that value resiliency over efficiency.
These large, corporate operators aren't going to go away willing.
