Why would I want to subject myself to 24/7 monitoring? Many online sources have advocated for us to quit using cellphones, or at least drop down to the simplest flip phone, such as Amazing Polly. Besides, it costs a lot of money. That's part of why I don't watch TV either. Cable and satellite cost too much. I use a landline phone, and that's how I get internet.
I can use the internet with little chance of tracking anything important, as I do very little that's important online. I still write paper checks and mail them in. It works. In fact, utility bills in my town cannot be paid electronically or with plastic. It has to be check by mail or check or cash in person. I pay those two in person, as they are due around the same time, and I have other errands to do at the same time, so it doesn't take much time.
I don't see any reason for me to have a cell phone. No one calls me, and I don't call anyone else. If I'm with someone else, we deserve 100% attention from each other, or being with them is meaningless.

You keep doing you.
