Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evoloving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
To understand how covert the suggestion could be... There was a experiment that went something like this. People were repeatedly shown a video of someone saying “Ba” then repeatedly shown someone saying “Ga”. When that was installed in the brain the subject was shown a video where he heard the person saying “Ba” but visually (lip reading) the person was saying “”Ga”. When asked, the subject said he heard “Da”.
Anyone who has tried to learn a new language as an adult will say that the way we understand spoken words is nothing but imperfect. The brain fills in most of the sounds simply based on what it expects would fit in that sentence.
When you stat learning a new language, this becomes very obvious. You can listen to a very slowly spoken well enunciated sentence, and yet struggle to pick up the exact sounds in the beginning. It even feels like it is impossible to learn the language.
However, after learning for a while and practicing listening and speaking you will slowly find your brain picking up the sounds without effort.
I would claim that the mechanisms of how the brain picks up sounds is probably very different from the brainwashingmechanisms.
What you said about very subtle brainwashing is perfectly on the spot though. All you have to do is go back and watch old TV shows, even something that felt completely benign like The Office or Parks and Rec, and you will realise the subtle brainwashing that takes place.
For instance, I was shocked to realise that in the show The Office, the main characters Jim and Pam were actually pretty awful human beings, and the one always made fun of - Dwight - never did anything wrong.
In Parks and Rec, the most based character - Ron Swanson - who tells all the right things about government, gold, individualism etc, is used to subtly push towards radical feminism - without the audience even realising it. The entire show has only a few instances where that happens, and yet the viewer is left with a much softer feeling about feminism than when they started.
I would love to discuss specific brainwashing techniques, both micro an macro, if you have analysed any.
Speaking of macro - I noticed when I started watching old 40s-60s movies recently that every one of them subtly glorified adultery. Much like how in 80s-90s they slowly normalized lgbt and ramped up the speed in the end, or after 2000s they really started normalising very slutty behaviour.
If this method of suggestion is not already being used against us it surely will with the advancement of A.I. This may be a brand new battleground that can be influenced or exposed. Just pointing at the break in the wall. Not sure how to fix it.
That’s all for now
