Budweiser advertises their beer as being "Beechwood Aged".
Beechwood is an extremely soft wood that gives zero flavor to the beer. What is the main use of Beechwood? Popsicle sticks and tongue depressors. It's a soft, pliable wood that has no flavor.
Why is Budweiser "beechwood aged"?
Because as beer yeast settles, it's in less contact with the beer, so a beer takes longer to ferment. You can speed up the fermentation time by 20% (increase production and batch turn-over) if you can keep the yeast in the liquid and not settled out.
Introduce thousands of thin spirals of beechwood into the fermenter. The yeast clings to the wood and stays in suspension in the liquid. Beer ferments faster, then afterward you get rid of the now soft spiral limp noodles of beechwood. That's it. No flavor difference, no benefit to the customer at all.
However... Budweiser lies by advertising like it's some special benefit, or gives the beer a special flavor. :>)
Wow this is interesting as hell! I'm also laughing at Karma giving them whiplash
