I've lived in California most of my life (I left a few times and always ended up coming back for one reason or another). I'm talking 50 years in Southern California and not a single moment of this commercial looks familiar to me.
The worst thing about California is that if you had a conversation with anybody here you would see that most of the people living in California are naturally Conservative but they don't know a damn thing about politics and they're greatly influenced by pop-culture and celebrities so they vote liberal without a second thought. They are convinced that voting liberal - against their own personal beliefs - makes them good people because their favorite pop star/actress/ baseball player/newscaster said so.
If the mocking bird media was destroyed people would see how Conservative California really is.
