As someone who doesn’t do social media, can anyone enlighten me as to why anyone gives a crap about a blue check mark?

Why are all these morons losing their mind about a stupid check mark? It seems totally pointless to care. So what if you have or don’t have one. What the hell does having one actually do for you?

When they were all tweeting the infamous “I’ve tested positive, but thankful for my shots” it was obviously code for something. This blue check situation seems to be similar; like it’s really about something else that we aren’t aware of yet.
